Amtek Marine Consults

“As the senior member of the AMC team I find it invigorating working with the younger engineers. An important part of my role at AMC is to mentor the younger staff but when I address their insightful questions and observe their professionalism I often feel that I am learning more from them than they are from me.”

Patrick Walker, PE, D.PE - Chief Engineer

As one of our chief Engineers, Patrick Walker has served on the leadership board for over 7 years. Patrick has been deeply involved in the design and oversight of more than $150 million in resilient infrastructure improvements for federal, state, and municipal clients, acting as both project manager and independent peer reviewer. His extensive experience has provided critical guidance to project teams and mentorship to emerging engineers on best practices in sustainable and adaptive structural design.

Patrick is a widely published author and highly regarded engineer in the fields of civil, coastal, and transportation infrastructure engineering. His key publications include contributions to Design of Resilient Infrastructure Facilities (Editions 1–3) and Structural Design in Challenging Environments. He also served as Committee Chairman and Editor for the ASCE Practice Manual No. 130, “Guidelines for Berthing and Mooring Structures in Coastal Zones”; along with numerous technical papers on topics such as floating wave attenuation systems, resilient coastal construction, shoreline protection and rehabilitation, design of elevated research platforms, and restoration of northern infrastructure under extreme conditions.

Patrick is an award-winning engineer, honored in 2012 with the prestigious ASCE/COPRI Moffatt & Nichol Harbor and Coastal Engineering Award (renamed variant). He was recognized for his significant contributions to advancing the civil engineering community's understanding of environmental forces on infrastructure, for authoring foundational industry references, and for his lifelong dedication to the profession. He has also served as a guest lecturer at multiple universities and presented at numerous national and international professional conferences.

Patrick is a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); an Honorary Life Member of ASCE/COPRI's Infrastructure Resilience Technical Committee; and a Life Member of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, where he contributed to the editorial board of the Journal of Civil Engineering Practice for over 20 years. He maintains long-standing membership in the Permanent International Association of Navigation Congresses (PIANC) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Patrick is a board-certified Diplomate in Coastal Engineering (D.CE) and in Port and Navigation Engineering (D.PE) through the COPRI Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers.

Patrick is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and several additional states.

Did You Know? Patrick is an enthusiastic offshore and coastal sailor who held a 100 Ton USCG Master's License for many years. “Time spent navigating the seas has deepened my appreciation for the ocean's dynamic forces, the immense power of waves, and the delicate balance of coastal ecosystems—insights that have profoundly enhanced my approach to designing resilient infrastructure in marine-influenced environments.”
