John J. Hawkins, PE, SE - Vice President

With a profound passion for engineering and a commitment to creating sustainable, resilient waterfront structures, John Hawkins serves as the Vice President of Amtek Marine Consults. With over 10 years of experience exclusively in waterfront structural engineering, John is a rising leader in the industry.

Throughout his career, John has been at the forefront of AMC’s mission to set the industry standard for designing infrastructure that stands up to the challenges of sea-level rise and the harsh marine environment. For example, John is currently a contributing expert to the development of a new ASCE COPRI manual, “Design Standards for Piers and Wharves.” John’s focus is on Chapter Four, wherein he is developing industry standards for structural analysis and design alongside his peers.

At AMC, John has served as the Engineer in Charge for over 100 task orders involving above-water and underwater inspection, structural analysis, design, and construction support services for construction projects valued between $2 million and $12 million. Each of these projects either rehabilitated or expanded the capability of each facility to complete their missions. John has also played a pivotal role in the successful execution of hundreds of underwater inspections across the United States, Caribbean, and Bahrain.

In John’s current role as Vice President, he provides strategic direction to the firm, working closely with clients to understand their unique needs and developing customized solutions that surpass expectations. He also oversees a team of talented engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that has consistently delivered exceptional results.

John is a University of New Hampshire graduate, and a licensed civil and structural engineer, as well as a certified commercial dive supervisor. He is an active member of ASCE’s Ports and Harbor Committee, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), and the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (NH-ACEC). Above all, John is a dedicated leader who exemplifies AMC’s core values of excellence, trust, and consistency.

Did You Know? From the age of 5, John’s affinity for ice hockey began to flourish. He excelled as a varsity player in high school and furthered his dedication to the sport with a post-graduate year at Williston Northampton. John’s passion for hockey continued while at the University of New Hampshire playing for the ACHA club program. Throughout high school and college, John skillfully balanced his roles as a talented player, student, and a devoted youth hockey coach, leaving a lasting impact on up-and-coming generations of athletes. Today, John continues to participate in local leagues and pond hockey tournaments in both New Hampshire and Vermont. His hockey journey has served as a cornerstone for his lifelong team-first mentality and an unyielding pursuit of excellence in his engineering career.
